pre-industrial 278.3 ppm
1600 → 2026. Dashed line: the pre-industrial 278.3 ppm.Measured at Mauna Loa from 1959 (NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory); reconstructed from ice cores before that, and approximate.

There's now more CO2 in our atmosphere than at any point in last 800,000 years. The fossil fuel and meat industry are the leading drivers and make it rise faster than ever. They are causing the climate crisis. We still have time to limit the damage and save people's lives and livelihoods, but we need to act now.

NASA graph of atmospheric CO2 over 800,000 years from ice cores, oscillating between about 180 and 300 ppm before rising almost vertically to today's level.
This graph, based on the comparison of atmospheric samples contained in ice cores and more recent direct measurements, provides evidence that atmospheric CO2 has increased since the Industrial Revolution. Carbon Birth PPM Calculator FAQ

What is a Birth Carbon Calculator and how does it work?

A Birth Carbon Calculator, calculates the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere at the time of your birth. It compares past CO2 levels with current levels to show how atmospheric carbon has changed over your lifetime.

What is ppm (part per million)?

If we split our atmosphere today into 1 million parts, about 430 of them would be made of carbon dioxide. And while 429.51 parts per million (ppm) might not seem like a lot, it’s the most we’ve seen in at least 3 million years. All of this extra carbon dioxide is warming up the planet.

How accurate are the carbon dioxide levels in the Birth Carbon Calculator?

It depends on how far back you go, and the calculator does not pretend otherwise. From 1959 onward the figures are NOAA’s published annual mean measurements taken at the Mauna Loa Observatory — direct instrument readings, accurate to about a tenth of a ppm. Before 1959 there were no instruments, so the values are reconstructed from air trapped in Antarctic ice cores, chiefly the Law Dome record, and they are smoothed estimates rather than yearly readings. The shape of the curve is well established either way. Sources: NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory (gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends) for 1959 to today, and ice-core reconstructions for 1600 to 1958.

How have CO2 levels changed over the years since my birth?

CO2 levels have consistently increased over the past decades due to human activities like burning fossil fuels, meat consumption and deforestation. The Birth Carbon Calculator illustrates this trend, showing a significant rise in atmospheric CO2 levels since your birth.

What can I do to reduce my carbon footprint today?

Carbon footprint is just one metric to look at individual climate action. Climesumer.com has a whole range of solutions to help you live sustainably and take effective action. With sustainable alternatives, educational content, curated climate resources, and effective climate action for individuals.

What does ppm mean in the context of CO2 levels?

Ppm stands for "parts per million," a unit of measurement used to describe the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. For example, a CO2 level of 400 ppm means there are 400 molecules of CO2 for every one million molecules of air. This metric helps scientists track changes in atmospheric CO2 levels over time, providing critical data for understanding and addressing climate change.

Who was born at 375 ppm?

Greta Thunberg. “I was born at 375 PPM,” writes Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in her Twitter / X bio rather than mentioning her year of birth (2003).

What is the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere today.

About 429.51 ppm, as of August 2026 — that is NOAA’s latest monthly figure with the seasonal cycle removed. CO2 rises and falls by several ppm each year as northern-hemisphere plants grow and die back, peaking in May and bottoming out in September, so a single month’s raw reading can look like a fall when the trend is still climbing. NOAA publishes the current figure at gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends.

What is a carbon dioxide birth number?

A CO2 birth number is the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) that was in the atmosphere during the month or year you were born. It is a different word for "birth carbon". This number helps illustrate the historical levels of greenhouse gases and their increase over time. To find out your CO2 birth number, you can use a Birth Carbon Calculator.

How do I calculate a carbon dioxide birthday?

You can use a CO2 birth calculator, input the year you were born and lookup the parts per million (ppm) of CO2 concentration in the year you were born.

How to find the CO2 birth number?

To find out your CO2 birth number, you can use a Birth Carbon Calculator.

What is my CO2BN? Carbon dioxide birth number and what is it?

The carbon dioxide birth number (CO2BN) is the amount in parts per million (ppm) of carbon dioxide during the month that you were born.

What is a born at ppm calculator and how does it work?

A born at ppm calculator calculates the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere at the time of your birth. It compares past CO2 levels with current levels to show how atmospheric carbon has changed over your lifetime.

What is a born in... ppm calculator and how does it work?

A born in ppm calculator, calculates the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere at the time of your birth also known as your carbon birth number. It compares past CO2 levels with current levels to show how atmospheric carbon has changed over your lifetime. Born in...ppm is also a photo project from Mary-Lou Mauricio who photographs people with their birth number.

Who is the 375 ppm activist?

Greta Thunberg. “I was born at 375 PPM,” writes Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in her Twitter / X bio rather than mentioning her year of birth (2003).

375 ppm meaning?

This number refers to the PPM (parts per million) of CO2 particles in the atmosphere when Greta Thunberg was born.
