Joining a climate activist group is one of the most effective climate actions. Unlike voting for climate-focused parties, climate activist groups try to accelerate political action by putting pressure on leaders. Sometimes it can feel that climate activist groups want to "take something away" from people. The truth is, they follow the scientific consensus and try to find ways to avoid the worst effects of climate change (which will derail the global economy and life as we know it if we don't act). When you look closely, many of the sustainable alternatives needed for a sustainable and just world like great public transport everywhere, long-distance high-speed trains, heat pumps or even bike friendly cities will improve the life for everyone. Just and fair also means that these changes are made step by step and with low income households and rural areas in mind. They will most likely get more support. There are multiple activism groups to choose from. Some try to disrupt the status quo, some create momentum via political advocacy campaigns or referenda and others try to increase dialogue or try to advance climate solutions on a community level, many have a specific focus like mobility or climate action. ALL of the groups are useful and move the needle in important ways. Choose your pick:)

About Restoring Passenger Rail
Restore Passenger Rail is a new climate campaign is setting up right now in Aotearoa. We have a plan to prevent the catastrophic climate change that we are currently heading for. That’s right – it’s a plan not just help to mitigate to some extent, but actually change the political playing field on climate across a number of democratic countries, and save people, plants and animals from the devastating effects of climate change and ecological collapse. How? We’re starting now with mass mobilisation, civil Resistance, and a network of campaigns across 12 countries. All disrupting Business as Usual at the same time. We’ve picked a winnable and popular initial demand: Restore Passenger Rail. We can win this quickly, building strength for a bigger win. There is a lot more to it. And we need your help. Join us and international guests on Zoom to find out more. We need your passion, and your experience. All our collective efforts have not yet secured our future. However they have brought us together, strengthened our resolve, and imparted much knowledge and skill. We are now ready to try something new. Come along to see what you think and how to get involved. Why? We have no time to loose: In the next 10-20 years we will hit 2 degrees warming. This will make 20% of the earth uninhabitable. As a result there will be 1 billion climate refugees. This will bring, violence, war and societal collapse. Thankfully we can turn things around and provide public services that benefit our people. Because can reduce overall consumption and share what we have. We have two to three years to do this but governments here and around the world lie and say they are dealing with it, meanwhile destruction of the natural world is accelerating and emissions are still rising. Why passenger rail? Restoring passenger rail in NZ is an achievable campaign that will directly help to lower our emissions. It’s winnable, popular and an important climate goal. Affordable and accessible passenger rail will help close the gap between rich and poor. It will create jobs and it will help revive peaceful civil resistance in Aotearoa.
