About Searching for Amani

"Searching for Amani" is a character-driven coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of a climate crisis. It follows thirteen-year-old aspiring journalist Simon Ali as he investigates the mystery of his father’s murder in Laikipia's largest wildlife conservancy in 2019. Over four years, Simon seeks answers amid a devastating drought in Sub-Saharan Africa, uncovering the complex forces behind his father's death. This narrative addresses themes of environmental change, conservation, and community equity. "Amani," meaning peace in Swahili, was his father’s last word and Simon’s greatest hope for the region.
