Joining a climate activist group is one of the most effective climate actions. Unlike voting for climate-focused parties, climate activist groups try to accelerate political action by putting pressure on leaders. Sometimes it can feel that climate activist groups want to "take something away" from people. The truth is, they follow the scientific consensus and try to find ways to avoid the worst effects of climate change (which will derail the global economy and life as we know it if we don't act). When you look closely, many of the sustainable alternatives needed for a sustainable and just world like great public transport everywhere, long-distance high-speed trains, heat pumps or even bike friendly cities will improve the life for everyone. Just and fair also means that these changes are made step by step and with low income households and rural areas in mind. They will most likely get more support. There are multiple activism groups to choose from. Some try to disrupt the status quo, some create momentum via political advocacy campaigns or referenda and others try to increase dialogue or try to advance climate solutions on a community level, many have a specific focus like mobility or climate action. ALL of the groups are useful and move the needle in important ways. Choose your pick:)
Emission Gap Report 2022
The EGR is the 13th edition in an annual series that provides an overview of the difference between where greenhouse emissions are predicted to be in 2030 and where they should be to avert the worst impacts of climate change.
About Emission Gap Report 2022
The report shows that updated national pledges since COP26 – held in 2021 in Glasgow, UK – make a negligible difference to predicted 2030 emissions and that we are far from the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, preferably 1.5°C. Policies currently in place point to a 2.8°C temperature rise by the end of the century. Implementation of the current pledges will only reduce this to a 2.4-2.6°C temperature rise by the end of the century, for conditional and unconditional pledges respectively. The report finds that only an urgent system-wide transformation can deliver the enormous cuts needed to limit greenhouse gas emissions by 2030: 45 per cent compared with projections based on policies currently in place to get on track to 1.5°C and 30 per cent for 2°C. This report provides an in-depth exploration of how to deliver this transformation, looking at the required actions in the electricity supply, industry, transport and buildings sectors, and the food and financial systems.

Climate actions
Steps this helps you take.
The phase out of fossil fuels is a key requirement for a sustainable and liveable future. You can accelerate that transition and send the right market signal, buy switching to a renewable energy provider at home. Renewable energy mainly comes from wind, solar, hydro or bioenergy. Some people are concerned about the the impact on nature with renewable energy. However the numbers couldn't be clearer. Renewable energy are better for biodiversity, cause less deaths both for humans and animals, produce cleaner air, and have less GHG emissions with is key towards a net zero, low-carbon world.
Pursuing a climate-focused career is one of the most impactful individual actions we can do. It enables you to directly contribute to tackling the climate crisis and create a sustainable and just world for all.
Voting is one of the most effective (climate) actions for people in democracies and it's super simple too. Climate-focused parties will try to renew the economy into a low-carbon, sustainable and just world for everyone! Sometimes it can feel that these parties want to "take something away" from people. The truth is, they follow the scientific consensus and try to find ways to avoid the worst effects of climate change (which will derail the global economy and life as we know it if we don't act). When you look closely, many of the sustainable alternatives needed for a sustainable and just world like electric cars, great public transport everywhere, long-distance high-speed trains, heat pumps or even bike friendly cities will improve the life for everyone. Just and fair also means that these changes are made step by step and with low income households and rural areas in mind. They will most likely get more support. Please use your political voice to bring about a sustainable and just world.
Speak up and get others to join in taking action. It's one of the quickest and most effective ways to make a difference. Talk to your neighbors, colleagues, friends, and family. Let business owners know you support bold changes. Appeal to local and world leaders to act now. Climate action is a task for all of us. And it concerns all of us. No one can do it all alone – but we can do it together.
